Friday Night Live, produced by Geoffrey Perkins, now head of comedy at the BBC, attained considerable status during its heyday from 1986-88. Hosted by Ben Elton, it took the form of a cabaret show and launched the careers of a new type of politically correct but brash comedian.

We here at House get asked a lot of questions about the show and instead of ignoring you for another 3 seasons (my suggestion), they’ve assigned me to Clinic duty. I’m the Anonymous Doctor and I’ll be answering your questions.

Before taking up residence in "House," Hugh Laurie starred in (and directed) this comedic English series, playing general practitioner Paul Slippery, a man working in the London suburb of Putney and dealing--rather badly--with his advancing age. Slippery's bawdy escapades revolve around his eccentric coworkers, his promiscuous sons, and faltering relations with a wife he suspects may have turned into a lesbian. All six episodes of the series are presented. 6 hrs. total. Soundtrack: English.

Apparently Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue is a Gregory House Fan. Contact Music

MOTLEY CRUE bassist NIKKI SIXX has replaced drugs with a new addiction - the TV show HOUSE. The reformed hell-raiser, 48, is now a clean-living family man - but he still feels an affinity with roguish figures, like Hugh Laurie's character Gregory House. Sixx says, "He is such an asshole I can't help but root for him. Maybe there's a little bit of me in there."

...and is Greg House a Motley Crue fan?

October 26, 2007 - A few November sweeps House spoilers have been added to the House Season 4 Page. Also added seven more photos from Alfresco to the Film/Television Gallery (scroll towards the bottom of the page)

Yahoo news has the video clip of the segment about Hugh shown on Fox and Friends a couple of weeks ago.

The 1990 Ben Elton play "Gasping" is being produced in the United States. From The Boston Globe:

How did Theatre on Fire, a tiny fledgling company, manage to mount the US premiere of a West End hit? Granted, Ben Elton's "Gasping" debuted in London quite a while ago: in 1990, at Theatre Royal Haymarket, with Hugh Laurie as the lead. At that point, Elton, a popular writer-comedian, was still sailing on the success of BBC's "Blackadder" series; he hadn't yet fallen out of favor - and sacrificed his edgy cred - for collaborating with the likes of Andrew Lloyd Webber...READ MORE

TV.com features video clips from the SMA benefit on the 8th. "Between Takes"

Hugh was honored with the Valley Community Clinic Visionary Award on Oct 10th.

From LA Comfidential:

"I really am incredibly moved by this. Of course I feel a complete fool standing here before you," Laurie told the crowd at the Sheraton Universal Hotel. "I pretend to be a doctor to pretend patients with pretend illnesses. Here I am being honored by doctors. That seems to me to be ... backward. This feeling of fakeness is all the more acute because I am the son of a doctor."

Laurie, who is British, talked about Britain's national healthcare system, which he said is far from perfect, but he added, "When you are at your weakest, there is someone there to take care of you. It is something. This whole business of healthcare from cradle to grave is so embedded in my bones."

Emmy Nominee Hugh Laurie’s Doctor is in the “House”

Tom O'Neil thinks James Gandolfini likely to win the Emmy, but Hugh has an excellent chance. The Envelope

Gandolfini is considered the favorite by many pundits and oddsmakers (Sopranos last season, unforgettable character) but Hugh is getting plenty of respect and indeed most agree he is more than deserving of the award. Whether or not Hugh leaves with a trophy Sunday evening, to be nominated and so respected by peers, critics and fans alike is a tremendous accomplishment. Hughlaurie.net wishes Hugh and all involved with House the very best this very busy weekend!

September 12, 2007 - Nice photo of BFTV celebs from In Touch Weekly online.

Greg Grunberg is a hero in more ways than one. In addition to playing mind reader Matt on the hit NBC drama Heroes, he is also the founding member of the Band From TV. Greg keeps the beat on the drums, while Desperate Housewives' James Denton channels his inner guitar god, and The Bachelor's Bob Guiney along with Cashmere Mafia star Bonnie Somerville provide lead vocals. On keyboards, House's Hugh Laurie rounds out the all-star cast. Band From TV plays gigs in an effort to raise money for the UCLA Epilepsy wing, where Greg's oldest son Jake is currently being treated. "It is the coolest thing to include my friends and those actors I admire in a rock 'n' roll fantasy experience that raises money for charity... and we ROCK DA HIZZY!" Band From TV will be performing live at TV Guide's Emmy after- party at Les Deux in Hollywood on Sunday, September 16, along with Grammy-winning artist John Legend.

September 5, 2007 - Hugh has been announced as a presenter for the Emmy Awards on the 16th. Lucky us!! ETonline

Band From TV will also be performing at the TV Guide after party again this year.

Speaking of TV Guide, this week's issue features coverage of the Emmy Awards to be broadcast on Fox, Sunday September 16th. Matt Roush had this to say about Hugh's chances: "If there's a Sopranos sweep, James Gandolfini's a favorite. But House's Hugh Laurie is way overdue, and he has earned it."

The issue also features an ad for the show with a tiny photo of Hugh and the dinner menu for the Governors Ball, with a mention of the BFTV performance.

The official Fox website offers this video clip from the season premiere of House. (Sept.25th) Obviously it is spoilery! House plays the guitar.

A young animator from China, Dick Ma, sent this email regarding an animation he is working on with Greg House as his subject. The work so far is posted on youtube. He explains the process and why he needs some funding to finish. It's very interesting - it appears adding House's hair is a difficult process. Anyway, check it out! hughlaurie.net wishes him much luck in his promising career.

Youtube link - animation

XSI Base.com

My name is Dick Ma, 28 from Hong Kong, China.

I just would like to tell you that I am working on a 3D animation that featured Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House. The above link is the production process of Dr House. The animation last for about 1 min and it will be featured as my demo reel.

This is a more technically-based demo reel as it is a challenge to translate Dr House facial characteristics into another format of presentation. And of course I am a fan of the TV series.

The reason of writing this mail is about I would like your site to promote this news to people who love Hugh Laurie. And I have a purpose to raising fund and sponsor for this animation.

The animation currently now is in the production state that needs to use the renderfarm service to produce animation frames. The amount of fund-raising will just pay for the rendering service. (personally I cannot do rendering on my own: 3 layers of images for a single frame and 1 layer cost rendering time of 15 mins. and I have to deal with 1965 frames for just 1 min animation.)

Here I promise for the people who donate with a minimum of US$35 will have a DVD of animation in return and for the people who donate over US$50 will have a DVD and the donator can leave his/her name in the animation as acknowledgement.

September 3, 2007 - I have finally added the "All or Nothing at All" page. It includes nearly 500 screencaps, some hires publicity photos and an article from The Radio Times.

According to Tom O'Neil over at Gold Derby, Hugh was considered by Fox as a possible Emmy host. Did they ask him and he turned it down? Did they not asked him for fear the poor audience might become hopelessly confused? (as stated by the Fox PR people). Only the shadow knows. ;-) Anyway, Ryan Seacrest is hosting:

Fox Network came thisclose to naming someone other than "American Idol" emcee Ryan Seacrest as host of the Emmycast on Sept. 16: Hugh Laurie.

Laurie was actually the early first choice of several top Fox exex, who lobbied strongly for him to get the job, according to a TV academy source. Others tubthumped for Seacrest, who's a logical choice since he already hosts America's most popular regular TV program plus specials like New Year's Eve countdowns. The standoff at the network was to blame for any host being named so late. Last year Conan O'Brien's appointment was unveiled in mid-May — three months before the Seacrest announcement this year.

In the end, Fox decided to go with its "Idol" star over its "House" star because exex felt Seacrest would draw a larger TV audience and because viewers might be confused seeing Laurie in an unfamiliar role.

But Laurie, in fact, is an accomplished entertainer beyond just that Doctor Grouch act you see on "House." He's a darn good pianist, for one thing. He performs in a few bands — 16:9 and Poor White Trash — and tickles the ivories in the "House" episode he submitted to Emmy judges in the race for best drama actor, "Half-Wit."

Entertainment Weekly online also mentions the story (along with dozens of other RSS feeders), but they get the prize for posting this great photo of Hugh and Stephen!

The Fox Fall Preview aired Sunday evening featured a trailer for the upcoming House season set to the music "Dancing With Myself." It's nothing terribly different than the promos they've been running as of late and featured at marykir.com, but it's not "here" yet. I'll post it tomorrow. Screencapping over five hours of "All or Nothing at All" about did me in.

House producer Katie Jacobs is featured in Los Angeles Confidental under "The Producers" No mention of Hugh, but interesting tidbits about KJ and her goals.

August 29, 2007 - Fox 11 KTLA has posted the entire BFTV segment, which also features comments by other House cast members.

August 28, 2007 - Fox 11 News - LA (August 28, following House) featured a tiny "interview" with Hugh about BFTV (session footage included). I say tiny because they only aired a snippet and cut the rest off. It would have been nice to have seen the entire interview. Maybe it will show up eventually? 43 second vid clip and screencaps.

Hugh has added two more awards to his impressive haul this year - Best Dramatic Actor at both the Teen Choice Awards and the Gold Derby Awards (chosen by members of the Gold Derby website)

August 26, 2007 - Great clip of Hugh's appearance on the 2003 Clive Anderson show - God Almighty. Guests on the show are given a chance to be God. Some photos of a photoshoot Hugh did for Variety - Emmy Contenders have been added to the Awards Page.

Variety also features mentions of Hugh in an article about the Best Actor nominees. Right mix births Emmy Contenders. [excerpt]

Katie Jacobs, executive producer of "House," is also of the belief that the credit for both a show and an actor's success at Emmy time has to be spread around.

"I don't think 'House' would work on this level at all without Hugh. For sure, I can say that the character would not be what it is today without Hugh because of his comic sense of timing, his musical ability and the fact that as an actor, he invites you into his inner life," Jacobs says.

Marykir has kindly donated the mov file she's compiled of Hugh's excerpts from the recently aired (in the UK) Stephen Fry: 50 Not Out. Clips and screencaps (I did these myself :) can be found on the Video Page. Marykir has an avi file on her site as well.

Review of the House Season Three DVD from DVDtalk. DVD extras:

The bonus material starts on disc one, with another of the show's great "Valley Girl Takes," an alternate scene delivery by Edelstein and Morrison. This time, the scene from "Cane & Able," is an "Angry Valley Girl Version," which has them swapping swears and "likes" with California style. If only they would do a whole episode like this, just so Laurie could get in on the fun.

After giving us two audio commentaries last time around, we get just one, from executive producer David Shore and executive producer/director Katie Jacobs, on "Half Wit." These creators get along well and have a lot of info to share, which makes for a fun and informative track that will be enjoyable for the show's audience.

The remainder of the extras are found on the final DVD, starting with a 5:30 blooper reel, which shows how much fun the cast seems to have while shooting and screwing up. It's followed by the 21-minute "Anatomy of an Episode: 'The Jerk'" which breaks down the production effort on this excellent episode, through on-set footage and interviews. It's a solid behind-the-scenes featurette, delivered in anamorphic widescreen and actually has Laurie speaking in his natural voice. It also has a couple of hints as to what is coming in season four.

Laurie fans get more from him in the seven-minute featurette on Band from TV, a charity all-star band that developed from the season-two episode "Sex Kills," co-starring Greg Grunberg ("Heroes.") With Grunberg on drums, Laurie on piano, Bob Guiney ("The Bachelor") on vocals and Lester Holt (NBC News) on guitar, along with David Foster acting as producer, it's certainly an interesting side project, worthy of a featurette that joins them in the studio for a recording session and several interviews.

Things wrap up with a pair of production featuettes, starting with the three-and-a-half minute "Open House," a tour of the show's production offices, led by Jacobs, and shot during production of the season finale. Shot seemingly completely off-the-cuff, it's a quick and dirty peek at the people who create the show. One group, the props crew, gets more screen time in "Blood, Needles and Body Parts," a 3:30 look at all the bits and pieces used to imitate the show's medical procedures, hosted by property master Tyler Patton.

August 12, 2007 - I have added a bunch of hires photos to the Jeeves and Wooster page.

Check out Hugh singing "You can't always get what you Want" with BFTV for the soon to be released House MD Soundtrack (Sept 18th) at the housesountrack myspace. They also feature a list of songs to featured on the CD.

New York Magazine says Hugh is one of the best bargains on TV:

Hugh Laurie, until he inevitably renegotiates his contract, is one of the best deals on TV; he's indisputably the star and the major draw of House, and each dollar he's paid brings in a full 2.69 viewers.

Interesting read from Discover Magazine about the "Real Doctor House." Thomas Bolte solves the medical mysteries no one else can.

Added a couple of clips and screencaps from last months Emmy reactions to the video page.

July 30, 2007 - Jane Berliner, the director of Voices for Children, Save the Childen, has written to tell us that Hugh has officially chosen Save The Children as his charity of choice to receive money raised via Band From TV appearances. Hugh was kind enough to wear a t-shirt bearing their logo at his BFTV appearance last weekend. They now have a page set up for him on the official site, so give it visit! How does Laurie interact with his fans? "I don't," he jokes. "I have a little man [who does it for me]." July 24, 2007 - More hires photos added below.

Maureen Ryan of the Chicago Tribune did a nice write-up of the press tour, including alot of upcoming House info. Spoilers abound, but this from Hugh:

“I will add that the first three scripts that I read of this season are not only three of the best ‘House’ scripts I've ever read, they're three of the best scripts I've ever read,” Laurie said. “It may be that in the execution of it, we'll make a dreadful hash of it and you'll go, ‘Well, I don't see what the fuss was about. That was a terrible piece of television.’ But purely as scripts, I find them absolutely phenomenal.

“I've never read anything that so ambitiously tries to mix broad comedy and gut-wrenching tragedy and philosophical musings and bizarre literary references all in the space of five seconds,” Laurie continued. “The speed with which it jumps from tone to tone is quite phenomenally ambitious.”

July 23, 2007 - From Hellomagazine.com: Home-grown US TV stars Hugh and Joely have fun at the fair (with photo)

An unhappy television writer recounts his evening at the party [excerpt]

I had a publicist who totally blew me off when it came time for a one-on-one with Kiefer Sutherland. Julianna Margulies snubbed reporters in a very cold fashion. Parker Posey had an absolute meltdown and exited the gala, and even the kindly star of House, Hugh Laurie, grew increasingly frustrated with a party that was not set up to handle interviews.

What idiot thinks it's a good idea to have a party at a carnival pier, with music turned up at full volume? Hugh became so frustrated at having to shout over the loudspeakers that he stopped doing interviews.

> Some enterprising House fans sent this email (many of you have probably seen this already as I am late in getting it posted)

Dear fellow House fan,

There is much buzz on the FOX message boards about having a House MD Convention next year in May. The organizers are in contact with FOX and they are showing interest in the idea. To make things a bit easier for an upcoming meeting with FOX, it would be helpful to show them real data gauging interest. The convention is in the planning stages and no venue has been decided upon. Locations under consideration include Los Angeles, California, New York City, New York and Princeton, New Jersey. Again I want to stress that this is all preliminary. The meeting with FOX will be sometime this summer.

To that end I have placed a petition link here that we would greatly appreciate if you would add it to your site. There is an option to vote either yes or no. Please remember this is to show FOX our interest in such an event. It is no guarantee the event will be held.

http://www.petitiononline.com/p9s2607/
Please let other fans know of this link as every Yes vote counts.
